“There's going to be peaks and valleys. You just gotta get back up and look at what you can do different next time and grow.”
Zack Steffen has had a whirlwind 18 months. The goalkeeper struggled with the Colorado Rapids last season, his first year back in MLS after a long stretch with Manchester City in England. The Rapids crashed out of the playoffs to eventual champions LA Galaxy, losing by a combined 9-1 scoreline in their two matches.
Fast forward to 2025, and things look very different. Steffen has been one of the best goalkeepers in the league, putting up historically excellent numbers. He’s also back in the U.S. men’s national team picture, making a resurgence under new head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Steffen opened up about the last year in an exclusive interview with Backheeled.
