Why there’s still value in the MLS SuperDraft – and the players to know in this year’s class

The draft isn’t what it used to be, but make no mistake: there’s talent to be had.

As MLS teams continue to ramp up investment in player acquisition and in-house development, a pathway to acquiring free talent remains part of the equation: the MLS SuperDraft.

The league has adapted and evolved significantly since its launch 30 years ago. While the draft has as well, this year’s edition – scheduled for Thursday, December 18th – serves as a reminder that for the teams that do their homework, it remains relevant to roster construction. In the past few years, teams around the league have made multi-million dollar fees on freely acquired talent.
