MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Following a back and forth 2-2 draw over 90 minutes, the United States men’s national team prevailed in a penalty shootout against Costa Rica to advance to the Concacaf Gold Cup semifinals.

Playing it safe or taking a risk?
While Pochettino hinted at a midfield realignment during a press conference on Saturday, it was nevertheless a surprise to see both Luca de la Torre and Sebastian Berhalter starting with Tyler Adams in the middle. Adams was deeper in buildup, with de la Torre to his left and Berhalter to his right. While de la Torre had been solid so far this summer, Pochettino didn’t want to leave out Berhalter’s bite and set piece prowess.
