USMNT outclassed by Switzerland in final Gold Cup tuneup: Did we learn anything?

The United States fell 4-0 to Switzerland on Tuesday night. Here's what went wrong.

The U.S. men’s national team was trounced 4-0 by Switzerland in a friendly clash on Tuesday night in Nashville. Let’s dig into a couple of thoughts on a match that really wasn’t all that complicated to understand.

U.S. outclassed by a superior opponent

Although the first goal was somewhat unlucky due to a deflection off Johnny Cardoso turning a predictable pass into a lethal through ball, there was a softness to the ensuing three more in the first half. There was Max Arfsten getting beat too easily, Matt Turner parrying a gift, and John Manzambi cutting in easily with a clear look at goal courtesy of Breel Embolo making a run to pull Walker Zimmerman out of the picture. Those moments suggested the U.S. simply didn’t show up.
