We’re three-quarters of the way into the Jagermeister Cup’s group stage, and there’s everything to play for. No team has clinched their spot in the knockout round. Many of the group leaders – Las Vegas, Indy, Rhode Island, and Greenville – are surprise clubs struggling in their respective leagues. That’s the beauty of the cup; it’s a second chance and an opportunity to build momentum.

Which clubs made the biggest statements this weekend, and who’s blowing their shot at glory? I’m digging into the winners and losers of the Jagermeister Cup weekend to find out.

Loser: Portland’s quest for regional dominance

In their first-ever New England rivalry match against Hartford back in April, Portland Hearts of Pine stuck to their identity and pulled off a U.S. Open Cup-set against their Championship rivals. Still, Portland would go down in the next round against Rhode Island.
