Star players across the league are doing their thing in 2025, but it’s the surprise standouts that are shaking up the standings.

Which players have emerged as difference-makers this season, and what makes them special? I’ve got eight picks (and some bonus selections from League One) that have exceeded all expectations to start the campaign.

Alex Dalou, FW, FC Tulsa

After moving up from NISA’s Albion San Diego last year, Alex Dalou struggled to settle and earn starting minutes with FC Tulsa in 2024. Roughly halfway into 2025, though, he’s already created as many chances (14) and won 57% more tackles (11) than he did in 22 appearances last year.
