What the highest paid player on each MLS club says about the team

Here’s what we learned from the latest salary release from the MLS Players Association.

Few days on the MLS calendar are sweeter than salary release day.

It’s the day when players, agents, team executives, and fans all press pause to pore over spreadsheets and mutter, “wait, that guy is making how much?”

On Wednesday, the MLS Players Association released the 2025 salary guide. Go peruse the guide until your heart’s content. Nothing is sexier than digging into the league’s highest-earning players, so in an effort to learn something from this year’s salary figures we’re examining just what each team’s top earner tells us about each club.

Onwards.

Atlanta United

Top earner: Miguel Almiron

Guaranteed compensation: $7,871,000

What it says about Atlanta: That they were too excited to get the band back together.

Between Almiron and Alexey Miranchuk, the Five Stripes can lay claim to two of the 13 highest earners in MLS — and in both cases, the investment hasn’t paid off. Helping a club legend return gave Atlanta United a narrative boost over the offseason, but Father Time has remained undefeated. Almiron has just three goals this year. Given his game is built on speed and aggressive transition attacks, Atlanta would’ve been better served looking elsewhere for a Designated Player.
