120 games down, 240 to go. The USL season reached the one-third mark after Week 12, with a majority of clubs having played double-digit league games. It’s officially the moment where early trends can’t be dismissed as mere flukes and where the table starts to become more and more meaningful.
With that in mind, it’s a useful time to reflect on the concerns of all 24 clubs in the Championship. What’s the biggest question facing every team as summer looms? I’m here to break it down.
Birmingham Legion
Where does Danny Trejo fit?
Between 2022 and 2023, Danny Trejo put up 31 goals and 12 assists to establish himself as one of the USL’s premier stars and earn a move to Europe. Back in the Championship with Birmingham now, he’s got just one goal contribution as June approaches. Trejo excelled in a freer role where he could explore the left halfspace in prior stops, but the Mark Briggs system is asking him to do something different. That’s not to say Trejo has been bad, but there’s meat left on the bone and it’s unclear how or if the Legion can use it.
