MLS Winners and Losers: LAFC's "no-brainer", Charlotte FC's hot streak & more

It’s in the title, folks. Every week during the MLS season, Backheeled will dive into the biggest Winners and Losers from around the league. This week, we’re recovering from the sheer number of goals that were scored, examining Charlotte FC’s historic win streak, praising LAFC’s “no-brainer”, and more.

Loser: A goalkeeper near you

This past weekend’s MLS action went down in the record books as an all-time high-scoring set of matches. We enjoyed 57 goals across 15 games, good for 3.8 goals per game. There’s popping a few fireworks in the cul-de-sac on New Year’s Eve…and then there’s the breathtaking professional firework show that we were treated to on Saturday night, the sort of display that’s only ever been equalized once back in August of 2022:

If Saturday was a firework show, goalkeepers across the league were skittish pups waiting for the loud noises to stop.
