Every USL season is defined by the unexpected players who find a way to level up. Hartford won a trophy in 2025, in part, because journeyman striker Kyle Edwards became a prolific super sub; Louisville set a points per game record with the help of rookie defender Josh Jones, who became an indispensable presence at the back.

The same thing will be true in 2026, but which players are ready to take the leap? I’ve got one candidate from each of the 25 teams in the USL Championship.
