I don’t know who you are or which MLS team you root for, but I do know one thing: there’s at least one massive, potentially season-altering question facing that MLS team this offseason as they prepare for 2026.

How much roster flexibility can they create?
The Five Stripes were awfully bad last year to have this little roster flexibility this offseason. With all three Designated Player spots filled and a less-than-abundant amount of cap space, there isn’t much that chief soccer officer Chris Henderson can do this winter. He can add a couple of U22 Initiative players, but those tend to be more miss than hit at least when they come from outside the league. They need a new right back, too, now that Brooks Lennon is gone. But there isn’t much more room than that.
