Ashley Sanchez isn’t afraid to try, and she rarely fails

It’s called sauce. A rare degree of skill from a player who oozes audacity. An astounding spontaneity on the pitch.

And Ashley Sanchez has it in spades.

“I feel like sometimes I just do things, and it just works,” the 23-year-old U.S. women’s national team playmaker tells Backheeled. “It’s not something I practice. It’s not something I’m thinking is going to work at the time but I’m just like ‘maybe,’ and then it does.”

Sanchez, a Monrovia, California native, stands out in the USWNT pool for a few reasons, but that unfettered, entertaining style of play is chief among them.
